Here at VOCAL, we are working very hard to open a low-cost animal clinic where a veterinarian and staff can offer a variety of services to help decrease the number of homeless and unwanted pets in Ocala and Marion County. Our clinic will provide low-cost spaying and neutering for your pet, rabies shots, heartworm tests and even microchips.
Help us reach our goal of opening the clinic! We have our property secured, have been accepted into the ASPCA’s Humane Alliance program (which will fully train and mentor our staff!) and are working with architects and a general contractor to secure bids. We are so excited to convert over 3,000 square feet of our current building into a state of the art clinic. We’re getting closer and closer every day to starting construction – help us reach our goal and donate today! Your contribution will directly help lower the number of homeless and unwanted pets in our community. Help us make Marion County a No-Kill County through prevention not destruction.
Low-Cost Spay Neuter Program
We realize our ultimate goal of opening a low-cost spay neuter clinic will provide a wonderful service to those in Marion County. However, we also realize there is an immediate need right now while we are fundraising to open the clinic. So, while we continue to fundraise, we are offering spay-neuter assistance to those looking for help spaying or neutering their pet. Our fund, The Tammy Green Daniel’s Fix the Future Fund, allows us to offer assistance to those in need right now. If you are looking for help spaying and neutering your pet, please fill out our spay neuter assistance form and one of our dedicated volunteers will be in touch with you shortly!
Benefits of Spaying and Neutering Your Pet
In addition to preventing unwanted litters, spaying and neutering have other benefits, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. Spaying eliminates heat cycles in female pets and typically reduces unwanted behaviors that often frustrate owners. Neutering male cats and dogs reduces the breeding instinct, which makes them less likely to roam away from home.
Early spaying can help protect female dogs and cats from such serious health problems as uterine infections and breast cancer. Neutering your male pet also reduces the risk of it developing testicular cancer and enlarged prostate gland.
